Ovi never saw it coming.

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is living his dream playing in the Stanley Cup Final but Game 1 got a little rough for him in the very first period. Both sides were playing fast paced and hard hockey with several big hits being delivered on both sides of the ice but it was while he was on the bench that Ovechkin took his worst bump of the night.

Like many players on the ice for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final the Capitals superstar captain seemed to be full of nervous energy and as a result he could be seen standing on the bench on numerous different occasions as he watched the action the ice. Unfortunately for Ovechkin his decision to stand rather than sit on the sidelines would end up costing him very early on in the game.

In spite of the fact that he was appeared to be intensely focused on the play in front of him Ovechkin seemingly never saw the puck that came sailing over the boards coming, and as a result he was completely stunned when he was suddenly struck in the face by the puck. It's not like he didn't have time to see it coming either, National Hockey League analyst Pierre McGuire can clearly be seen in the frame moving to duck away from danger several seconds before the puck strikes Ovechkin, but The Great 8 must have been distracted or something because he never moved.

The good news for fans in Washington here is that once the puck actually struck him in the face he barely seemed to notice that either. He of course recoiled from the initial shock of being hit in the face by something that he never saw coming, but after checking his mouth for damages he just went right back to business as usual, as if he had barely felt the puck at all.

Now to be fair it may have in fact stung Ovechkin a little but considering some of the injuries he has played through in the past during the playoffs I think it's safe to say that it is extremely unlikely that a puck to the face is going to stop him from playing
