There is some major trade activity at the Toronto Maple Leafs game tonight.
We are in the heart of National Hockey League trade season so seeing increased trade activity isn't exactly abnormal, however with 17 scouts and an NHL GM all in attendance tonight, this does stand out.
According to a report from The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta 15 different teams have at least 1 scout presents at the game and, in the case of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, general manager George McPhee is personally attending the game.
The teams who have at least one scout at the game are the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets, Washinton Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, Philadephia Flyers, Minnesota Wild and Arizona Coyotes.
Meanwhile the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues all have at least two scouts on hand to watch the Leafs play the Avalanche.
The Leafs have had both forwards James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak come up in multiple trade rumors over the past several months and, while we have no evidence to suggest that these are the two players drawing all the interest, that certainly seems like a reasonable hypothesis.
The fact that a GM is personally scouting this game would certainly seem to indicate something is up.
