Long time Flames forward is leaving the NHL.

Another NHL veteran on the way out.

A long time veteran of the National Hockey League appears to be putting an end to his NHL career.

On Wednesday National Hockey League insider Chris Kuc of reported that former Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks forward Lance Bouma had agreed to a one year deal with Geneve-Servette of Switzerland's National League. Kuc reports that the contract is a one year deal that will have a second year option for the player if he so chooses to exercise that option. The financial details of the contract were not revealed by Kuc and I doubt that they will be made public anytime soon if at all

Although this is purely speculation on my part the move from Bouma appears to be an indication that the 28 year old left winger did not receive any offers from organizations in the National Hockey League. Bouma is a North American born player and I'm confident that if he had received an offer to remain in North America he would have accepted it.

The lack of offers he has received are likely a direct result of hos lack of production on the ice as of late. After a 78 game season during the 2014 - 2015 NHL regular season with the Calgary Flames Bouma recorded 16 goals and 18 assists for a total of 34 points. Bouma finished that season with a plus minus rating of +10 but since then his performance has dropped off a cliff. Bouma would fail to hit the 10 point mark for 3 consecutive seasons and would also fail to record more than 3 goals in any of those seasons. He finished just one of those seasons with a positive plus minus and a move to the Chicago Blackhawks didn't seem to help matters.

Interestingly this comes off the heels of a move from another NHL veteran in Boston Bruins forward Tommy Wingels. The 20 year old Wingels has also decided to make a move to Geneve-Servette of Switzerland's National League and he also has signed a one year deal with a second year option. The two men both played on the Blackhawks together so there may be a connection there as well.
