We have a major scandal brewing in Ottawa and whether or not the accusations turn out to be true or false it's going to turn into a complete public relations disaster for the Ottawa Senators organization.
For those of you who missed our earlier report on this developing situation, Melinda Karlsson, the wife of Ottawa Senators' superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson, has levied some rather heinous accusations at a woman name Monika Caryk. Normally this wouldn't be a blockbuster news story in the hockey world, but what makes this such a major scandal for the Ottawa Senators is that Monika Caryk just so happens to be the long time girlfriend of Karlsson's Senators' teammate Mike Hoffman.
These are not accusations of the mild kind either, which is why whether or not they turn out to be true the fallout is going to be catastrophic. If Melinda Karlsson is telling the truth then Monika Caryk is a seriously disturbed woman, however if Melinda Karlsson is lying in this case then that would be equally disturbing given just how serious the statements she has made to police are.
Here are some of the things that were revealed by Melinda Karlsson during a sworn statement she made in court while seeking an order of protection against Caryk.
“Monika Caryk has uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead,” said Melinda Karlsson.
“She also uttered that she wished I was dead and that someone should ‘take out’ my husband’s legs to ‘end his career.’
“Monika Caryk has posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional.”
There has also been some suspicion that an incident that took play back in March of this year may have been related to this current case. Following the announcement that the Karlsson's unborn son, Axel Karlsson, had been stillborn a user on social media known only as "sandydandy45" had made a rather heinous comment regarding Axel's death.
“I feel bad for the baby he didn’t have a chance with Melinda popping pain killer medication everyday,” said the anonymous user.
Just 7 minutes after that comment was made Karlsson himself responded to it and the response indicated that he may have had some level of familiarity with the person behind the rather disgusting comment.
“How dare you,” said Karlsson. “You have been making fake accounts and buying hacked ones for months to harass me and my wife but this is an all new low even for you. You are a disgusting person.”
You can easily see why the two would be linked together, especially since Melinda Karlsson is claiming that Caryk has made 1,000's of negative and harassing comments about herself and her family online. That being said though there are always two sides to every story and at the time these are merely accusations.
Hoffman initially declined to comment on the ongoing situation, however quickly following the outrage that this story has created he came out and made an official statement. Unsurprisingly Hoffman denies the accusations.
“There is a 150 per cent chance that my fianceé Monika and I are not involved in any of the accusations that have been pursued (that are) coming our way," said Hoffman as per the Ottawa Citizen. “We totally understand there’s no place for cyberbullying.”
The question now is who is telling the truth?
